Historical Context

On 13 June 1944 Nazi Germany launched the first V-1 flying-bomb attack on London, triggering Britain’s Operation Diver anti-aircraft and fighter defenses. During the campaign 9,251 V-1s were fired, 2,515 hit the city and 6,184 civilians died, prompting rapid deployment of guns, barrage balloons and radar predictors. Ukraine’s use of about 3,000 drones in August 2026 shows the same pressure to build counter-drone systems.
