Kushner Says U.S. Is Beginning to Grasp Gaza’s Militarization

U.S. senior envoy Jared Kushner told reporters in Kyiv that Washington is only now understanding the extent of Gaza’s militarization. Kushner also said the United States had been working with Hamas for more than four months and that the group had signed an agreement committing to demilitarization.

According to Kushner, the U.S.-Hamas talks spanned several months, culminating in a written pledge from the terror organization to reduce its arms. He framed the agreement as a prerequisite for any governmental presence in Gaza, emphasizing that security concerns must be resolved before any civilian administration can be established.

Kushner acknowledged that Israel’s internal politics are hindering progress. He linked the difficulty to a “crazy election” in Israel, describing the political climate as “a little irrational” but affirming that Washington and Jerusalem share the same end-state vision for Gaza.

During the same Kyiv press conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the meeting as “very substantial,” noting discussions on security guarantees, air-defense missile supplies, and a winter support package for Ukraine. Kushner and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff also indicated hopes that trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States could resume soon.
