Uniform Distribution Events Over Summer
Clothing Coventry organized a series of free school-uniform events across three weeks this summer. Families could select the specific items their children needed, assisted by staff and volunteers. The initiative paused briefly after the events and is scheduled to reopen for new requests on September 14.
Data & Statistics
- 2,772 children were registered to attend the events, and more than 2,000 left with at least one item.
- 15,000 uniform items were handed out, including 1,869 polo shirts, 2,807 shirts, 2,388 jumpers, 183 blazers, 119 ties, 453 PE-kit pieces, 1,531 pairs of shoes, 2,787 boys’ trousers, 616 pinafores, 1,092 skirts, 900 girls’ trousers, and 260 sixth-form outfits.
- When specific items could not be supplied, the charity provided 60 vouchers of £30 each.
- Katie Wilson, CEO of Clothing Coventry, estimates the typical cost of a full uniform at £249.58 per child and says families saved an average of £69 by using the service.
Official Statements & Responses
The project also acknowledges the support of funders, the 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust and Coventry Building Society.
Impact on Families
By reducing the expense per child, the scheme helps families allocate resources elsewhere and enables children to begin the term with appropriate attire.
