Jefferson County School District Sues Over Federal Funding Threat Linked to Transgender Policy

Rob Stein, serving as interim superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools (Jeffco) for 22 days, filed a lawsuit this summer challenging the Trump administration’s request that the district abandon its transgender-inclusive policies. District officials warn that refusal to comply could jeopardize the entire $50 million of federal aid earmarked for school meals and special-education programs. The suit argues that the demanded policy changes would conflict with Colorado state laws that protect transgender students from discrimination.
