History

Historical Context

The 2006 Lebanon War ended when the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1701 on 11 August 2006, calling for Israeli withdrawal, Hezbollah disarmament and expanding UNIFIL to about 15,000 troops. Because the resolution is only partly implemented, Hezbollah holds tens of thousands of rockets and Israel continues airstrikes on routes, as the strike on Kfar Roummane shows. Lebanese officials and UNIFIL now demand stricter enforcement.
