Trump-Endorsed Mike Collins Faces Mounting Challenges in Georgia’s Senate Race

Republican leaders in Georgia are conceding that the 2025 Senate contest has slipped from a toss-up to a clear Democratic advantage. Incumbent Democrat Jon Ossoff now leads hand-picked Trump candidate Rep. Mike Collins, a shift attributed to Collins’s fundraising shortfall, staff and family scandals, and an ethics investigation into his chief of staff’s hiring practices.

His son-in-law, David Alan Scheer II, was identified as a pro-White nationalist who shared antisemitic and Nazi imagery; a former intern posted KKK-related content. Collins publicly condemned both the comments and images. Meanwhile, a House ethics probe examines whether his chief of staff hired a girlfriend for a no-show job. Financially, Collins has raised just $7.4 million since last year, starkly contrasted with Ossoff’s $77.3 million raised since the start of 2025.

A Fox News poll published on July 1 placed Ossoff ahead by 13 points. An InsiderAdvantage survey showed Ossoff at 50 % versus Collins at 43 %, with 7 % undecided. One Georgia politico told the Wall Street Journal that a “danger figure” of six percentage points could jeopardize Republican prospects for governor, attorney general, insurance commissioner, and other statewide offices. The Cook Political Report has already reclassified the race as “Lean D.”
