In December 2006 the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1737, after Resolution 1696, imposing sanctions on Iran for refusing to halt uranium enrichment. The measure, sponsored by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, froze assets and banned nuclear supplies.
