Historical Context

After Michael Jordan led the Bulls to three straight titles (1991-93) and retired, owner Jerry Reinsdorf hired Omri and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany in January 1994. The bronze was unveiled Nov 1 1994 outside the new United Center; 55 maquettes sold for $10,000 each, and the statue moved to the 2017 atrium. It set a precedent that the Lakers follow with a Phil Jackson monument scheduled for April 9 2027.
