U.S. Destroys Tankers
- U.S. forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island on September 8, 2026.
- The strikes pushed crude above $100 a barrel, drove rial down and prompted IMF forecast of a 5.4% contraction in Iran’s 2026 economy.
- U.S. Central Command said crews were ordered to abandon the tankers before they were hit.
- Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it struck a U.S. base in Jordan in retaliation.
