In January 1991 Iraq fired 46 Scud missiles at Saudi targets, striking the Ras Tanura oil complex and briefly halting about a third of the kingdom’s output, while a Patriot-defended raid killed one Saudi civilian and 28 U.S. soldiers. The 2024 Houthi drone and missile barrage on Jazan, Abha and Najran repeats that pattern, again threatening Saudi oil flow and prompting worldwide condemnation.
