On the morning of September 6, a white Ford Focus travelling south-westerly along Sole Street in the Kent village of Cobham collided with three cyclists near the junction with Round Street. Emergency services arrived at approximately 7.47 a.m. and confirmed that a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s were dead at the scene. Aaron Turner, 22, of Hermitage Road, Higham, was charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene, and possession of a class C drug. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on September 9. Two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and a 19-year-old woman was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender. Subsequent updates indicate that the 21-year-old man and the 19-year-old woman have been released on bail, while the 22-year-old driver remains in custody. The 19-year-old woman’s bail conditions extend until November 23/24.
