LZ Detects Event
- The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment recorded a single 248 keV nuclear-recoil event.
- The recoil occurred on 16 June 2023 deep inside the Sanford Underground xenon detector.
- Two flashes (S1 scintillation and S2 ionization) identified the recoil within the fiducial volume.
- No other similar events appeared in 220 live days, giving a 2.6 ? global significance.
- Researchers warned that five-sigma is needed for discovery, noting a single event cannot prove dark matter.
