South Africa entered the BRIC group in December 2010, becoming the ‘S’ of BRICS at the 2011 Sanya summit. The bloc expanded in 2024, adding Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates and reached ten members with Indonesia’s 2025 accession. In September 2026 President Cyril Ramaphosa will attend the New Delhi summit, the 18th meeting of the now-ten-nation coalition.
