- Itaru Maruo, born 1920 in Tokyo, entered Tokyo Imperial University in 1942.
- He captained the university’s hardball baseball team and was called its finest talent.
- The Imperial Japanese military drafted him under a student mobilization program and sent him to China.
- He likely died in a Manchurian army hospital on Aug. 30, 1945; his remains were never returned.
