History

Historical Context

After the United States left the JCPOA on 8 May 2018, it began a campaign that led Iran to threaten closing the Strait of Hormuz, which moves about 17.2 million barrels of oil daily. In June 2019 the U.S. Navy shot down an IRGC drone and deployed 1,000 troops, leading to Iran’s seizure of a U.S. Saildrone and warning discussed by President Lee Jae-Myung and President Emmanuel Macron.
