Zelenskyy Secures Aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Calgary, Alberta, on 10 September 2026 to meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
They said the assistance was aimed at protecting civilians and guaranteeing hospital power supplies throughout the approaching winter.
Mark Carney announced a C$350 million air-defence package and termed it a ‘Hundred Year Partnership’.
The loan guarantees total C$450 million to repair infrastructure and deliver one-third of drones to Ukraine.

History

Historical Context

After Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014, Canada responded with non-lethal aid and launched Operation UNIFIER in 2015, training more than 22,000 Ukrainian troops. Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s 2014-15 visits cemented the partnership, and Prime Minister Mark Carney’s 2025 Kyiv trip announced a $2 billion aid package. The 2026 Zelenskyy-Carney meeting continues that long-term support.
