In 1967 President Apollo Milton Obote abolished Uganda’s kingdoms, ending Tooro’s centuries-old rule. After the 1993 constitutional reversal, the Tooro Kingdom was restored and, in 1995, three-year-old Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV was crowned. The 2026 death announcement of the king revives the succession debate, testing the kingdom’s cultural role today.
