History

Historical Context

The September 2001 attacks killed 2,977 victims and exposed first responders to toxic dust, leading to thousands of illness-related deaths, including 299 FDNY firefighters reported in September 2022. In 2002 the FDNY Memorial Fund raised $5 million for the families of Ladder 118’s six fallen members. Decades later, Bowling Green State University’s Craig Bell and photographer Aaron McLamb exhibit previously unseen 9/11 photos, linking the original tragedy to ongoing remembrance.
