History

Historical Context

After the April 19 1995 bombing that killed 168 people, Oklahoma City formed a 350-member memorial task force in early 1996. Architects Hans and Torrey Butzer and Sven Berg won the July 1 1997 design competition from 624 entries, creating a $29 million memorial dedicated by President Bill Clinton on April 19 2000, now visited by hundreds of thousands annually.
