New Play Modes Unveiled at the Roblox Developers Conference
At its annual Roblox Developers Conference, the company announced three major extensions to how users can access games. By the end of 2026, Chrome users will be able to launch a Roblox experience directly from its Experience Details page without downloading the Roblox app. Offline solo play—dubbed “Game On Roblox”—is slated for mid-2027, allowing users to continue a session when the internet drops. In parallel, creators will be able to package games as native standalone applications for mobile, PC and consoles, while the underlying Roblox engine, identity system and economy remain shared.
Platform Evolution and Context
Roblox has long been associated with a single destination app. The new “Play Roblox Everywhere” strategy marks a shift toward broader distribution channels and supports new game types, including 2.5-D and turn-based multiplayer titles. The company also highlighted growth in its generative-AI Build tool, which has enabled roughly 9,000 games to be published from text prompts, with 71 percent of those creators having never used Roblox Studio before.
Official Statements & Responses
CEO Dave Baszucki added that the team has retargeted the app to WebAssembly to facilitate these new access methods.
