Historical Context

In 1996 Core Design launched Tomb Raider, selling over 7 million copies and establishing a 3D action-adventure template. After Square Enix sold the franchise to Embracer Group in May 2022, Crystal Dynamics announced at the December 11 2025 Game Awards two new entries—Legacy of Atlantis (2026) and Catalyst (2027)—both built with Unreal Engine 5, published by Amazon Games, and voiced by Alix Wilton Regan.
