Guardian Arrested After 2-Year-Old Killed in North Charleston Hit-and-Run

Fatal Crash and Immediate Police Action
North Charleston police reported that a 2-year-old child was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on Rivers Avenue and Eagle Drive. Detectives said the toddler entered the roadway and was hit by a 2020 Toyota Tacoma at approximately 8:45 p.m. The vehicle fled the scene, and officers later identified the child’s guardian, 21-year-old Glaimar Alejandra Ramirez Dominguez, who was taken into custody in early September and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child.
Earlier August Incident Involving Same Child
Police records indicate that on August 25 the same child, wearing only a diaper, was found wandering in the middle of the road at about 7:25 p.m. A passing driver stopped the child and called authorities; the child’s mother arrived shortly thereafter. Identity verification confirmed that the child and mother were the same individuals involved in the later fatal crash.
Additional Arrest and Charges
Alongside Dominguez, Anayely Lovato Guerrero of North Charleston was arrested and charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a collision involving death. Both suspects were booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Ongoing Multi-Agency Investigation
The North Charleston Police Department, the Charleston County Coroner’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are all conducting investigations. Police emphasized that the circumstances surrounding the child’s supervision remain under review, and the case is still active.
Legal Status as of Mid-September
Both suspects remain in custody pending further legal proceedings. The charges filed reflect serious offenses involving a child’s death, and authorities have indicated that additional information may emerge as the investigations continue.
