Historical Context

On February 26 1993 Ramzi Yousef detonated a urea-nitrate bomb beneath the North Tower, killing six and injuring over a thousand while prompting the evacuation of about 50,000 occupants. The FBI’s 300-agent TRADEBOM response spurred the 1995 creation of the Joint Terrorism Task Force; after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the 1993 bombing was often called forgotten.
