Background of the Specialist Chambers Trial
The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague was established in 2015 to try alleged crimes committed by KLA members during and after the 1998-1999 Kosovo war, which left roughly 13,000 dead, most of them ethnic Albanians. The trial of the four former KLA commanders began on April 3, 2023. Prosecutors allege murder, torture and persecution of civilians, charging six counts of crimes against humanity and four war-crime counts.
