Hyderabad Mobilises Multiple Agencies for Safe Ganesh Immersion Procession

Coordination Meeting Overview
On September 9, Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar chaired an inter-departmental coordination meeting at Visvesvaraya Bhavan, Khairatabad, to review preparations for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and the subsequent idol-immersion procession. The gathering included senior officials such as Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Tafseer Iqubal, IPS; GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, IAS; Joint Commissioners of Police D. Joel Davis (Traffic), S.M. Vijay Kumar (Special Branch) and Chandana Deepti (Future City). Representatives from HYDRAA, TSRTC, Fire Services, Information and Public Relations, Transport, Tourism, Health, Roads and Buildings, TGSPDCL, HMWS&SB, HMDA, Metro Rail, MMTS and the district collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy also participated.
Safety and Infrastructure Measures
Commissioner Sajjanar instructed all departments to remove loose or hanging electricity, cable and internet wires along the procession routes and to ensure sufficient height clearance to prevent accidents. He mandated that Ganesh mandapams receive safe electrical connections with mandatory earthing and approvals from the Electrical Inspectorate, and that electricity officials coordinate with police before any power shutdowns or wire-clearance work. All ongoing road, nala and slab works on main and feeder routes were ordered to be completed before September 14-15, and no new digging, drilling or cable-laying was to be permitted until the immersion concludes. Officials were also urged to expedite the relocation of power poles affected by ongoing Metro Rail construction in the Old City.
Health and Public Services
The Health Department was tasked with establishing 26 special medical camps across Hyderabad district, including dedicated facilities in the Balapur area, each equipped with ambulances and round-the-clock paramedical staff. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were directed to maintain uninterrupted drinking-water supply and adequate sanitation throughout the festivities.
Transport and Traffic Arrangements
The Transport Department was asked to arrange sufficient buses, goods vehicles and drivers, while the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation prepared adequate parking and vehicle-holding zones. Metro Rail services are slated to run until 1 a.m., and overnight MMTS trains will connect key stations such as Nampally, Lakdi-ka-pul, Khairatabad, Sanjeevaiah Park, James Street and Begumpet. Special public-transport provisions are planned for the final immersion day on September 25.
Upcoming Milestones
Officials must finish the identified infrastructure works by September 14-15, after which the city will focus on crowd-management and safety for the immersion procession culminating on September 25. Continuous public updates, including queue-closing times for major idols like the Khairatabad Ganesh, will be broadcast via television ticker scrolls and press notifications.
