Apple Introduces Series 12 and Ultra 4 with New Audio-Intelligence Features

The Ultra 4 remains a 49 mm titanium model, 1.5 g heavier, with the same MIL-STD 810H, IP6X dust-proof, and 131-foot depth rating.
Pricing and Availability
Series 12 pricing: $399 (base aluminum GPS-only), $699 (titanium), $899 (ceramic). The 46 mm size adds $100 for aluminum and $50 for titanium or ceramic; cellular adds $100 to the aluminum version. Ultra 4 starts at $799 (standard titanium); a titanium Milanese Loop raises it to $899, while Hermès versions range from $1,499 to $3,149.
Privacy Measures
Apple says Live Rewind does not store audio files; each 15-second buffer is overwritten continuously. The feature never identifies individual speakers, and all processing occurs within a hardware-isolated Secure Enclave on the S11 chip. End-to-end encryption protects any data transmitted for transcription.
User Impact and Market Reception
Continuous heart-rate monitoring and the Readiness metric position the Series 12 against fitness trackers such as Whoop 5.0 and Fitbit Air. Analysts note the S11-driven AI features are opt-in, allowing users to disable always-listening functions. Early reactions show enthusiasm for on-demand transcripts and concern over constant audio capture.
