Ugochukwu began his career in the McLaren junior programme in 2021, winning the inaugural Euro 4 title in 2023 and the 2024 Macau Grand Prix. McLaren released him after a 16th-place finish in his 2025 F3 debut, after which he joined Campos Racing. Campos secured its first drivers’ title and a second consecutive teams’ championship on home ground. Freddie Slater, Audi’s first junior signing announced on January 26, entered the season as a strong contender, having captured Italian F4, UAE F4 and the 2025 Formula Regional European titles. Ferrari junior Tuukka Taponen finished third in the standings, having won the final race.
Implications for Super Licence and Future Prospects
With the title, Ugochukwu now possesses the full super-licence points needed for a Formula 1 seat. He has already completed a private test in Alpine’s 2024 A524 car at Monza, marking his first F1 mileage. Regulations prevent a champion from returning to F3, so his next step will be Formula 2 in 2027, with the Abu Dhabi post-season test expected to shape his placement. The outcome highlights how a driver without a current F1 affiliation can still secure the licence pathway, contrasting with Slater’s continued development under Audi’s programme.
