Shooting at Raleigh Auto Shop Over Payment Dispute Leads to Multiple Charges

Around midday on a Saturday, police were called to New Life Auto Care on Renfrow Road in Raleigh after a customer confronted employees about the cost of repairs. The individual, identified as 54-year-old Elvin Fields of Henderson, became angry when told the amount he owed. According to the Raleigh Police Department, Fields drew a pistol, fired at an employee behind the counter, and demanded his vehicle keys. He then entered the service bay with three workers, again demanded the keys, received them, exited the shop, and discharged another shot toward the employees before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported.

Raleigh officers reported recovering two firearms and a bullet-proof vest that Fields had concealed beneath his shirt. The department’s statement indicated that Fields left the premises in his vehicle after the second discharge. Investigators cited the sequence of events as constituting multiple offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping-related charges because each employee was moved without consent for the purpose of intimidation.

Fields was taken into custody and faces a total of thirteen criminal counts: four counts of assault by pointing a gun, four counts of second-degree kidnapping, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, one count of discharging a weapon into occupied property, one count of going armed to the terror of people, one count of carrying a concealed gun, and one count of discharging a firearm in the city.
