Fatal Deerfield Beach Crash Involving a U-Turn

Sequence of Events
Around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night, deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a serious collision in the 4000 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach. Traffic investigators determined that a 2017 Nissan Sentra was traveling eastbound in the left-turn lane and executed a U-turn when it was struck on the passenger side by a 2022 Suzuki GSX-R570 motorcycle. The impact caused the Nissan to flip over.
Victims and Injuries
The motorcyclist, identified as Maxwell Patel, was pronounced dead at the scene. A female child who was a passenger in the Nissan was also pronounced deceased after being taken to Broward Health Medical Center. The driver of the Nissan and a male child were transported to Broward Health North; the boy was later air-lifted to Broward Health Medical Center for further treatment. Two adults and another child from the vehicle were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, with the two children listed in critical condition. In total, the crash resulted in two fatalities and five injured persons.

Broward County authorities opened an investigation into the crash. The sheriff’s office confirmed that detectives are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the U-turn and the motorcycle’s approach. No arrests have been reported, and officials have not released additional details pending the investigation.
