History

Historical Context

After a multi-year absence, Spain returned to Formula One in 1986 when Mayor Pedro Pacheco built the Jerez circuit, which hosted the Spanish Grand Prix until 1990 despite crowds of about 125,000. In 1991 the race moved to the newly opened Circuit de Catalunya, beginning a shift to permanent venues that today influences the planned Madrid Madring layout.
