The 2026 Asian Games, hosted across Nagoya and the wider Aichi prefecture, will run from September 19 to October 4. Organisers expected about 15,000 participants, but registration reached more than 17,000 athletes and officials – a larger contingent than the Olympics. To cut costs, there is no dedicated athletes’ village; instead, the plan relies on a cruise ship, temporary wooden cabins, and hotels. The Italian cruise ship Costa Serena is scheduled to arrive on September 15, providing berths for between 4,000 and 5,000 participants. The Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino confirmed that all Filipino athletes have rooms, though some coaches were moved to different hotels and Airbnb rentals. Singapore’s National Olympic Council said it is working with the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to adjust arrangements as needed.
