On September 14, 2026, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) increased its lead over the Indian National Congress in the Rajasthan urban local body elections, winning 4,171 wards while the Congress secured 3,597. Results were declared for at least 10,200 of the 10,244 wards counted by 2:15 p.m. The BJP achieved clear majorities in the 80-member Udaipur Municipal Corporation (53 wards), the 70-member Bhilwara Municipal Corporation (45 wards) and the 100-member Kota Municipal Corporation (53 wards). Notable One-Vote Incident
BJP candidate Kailashchand received only one vote in Ward 13 of the Parbatsar municipality (Didwana-Kuchaman district). Official results show Congress candidate Hina Khanam winning with 376 votes and independent Rashid Khan placing second with 195 votes. Kailashchand told PTI he is registered in neighboring Ward 12 but was fielded from Ward 13, explaining the solitary vote as coming from a resident of his home ward. Similar single-vote tallies were reported for a Congress candidate in Ward 15 of Riyanbari municipality (Nagaur district) and an RLP nominee who received no votes in Ward 3 of Sindhri municipality (Balotra district).

The BJP’s state leadership highlighted the overall ward lead as evidence of continued public support, noting the party’s performance across major municipal corporations. The Congress emphasized its gains in Bikaner, Ajmer and Pali, framing the results as a resurgence in urban pockets. CPI(M) state secretary Kishan Parikh attributed the Nokha victory to “anger against the BJP” and the party’s focus on “local issues and constitutional principles.” AAP officials in Baran projected that the council majority will enable the party to expand its foothold in Rajasthan’s local politics.

Opposition parties alleged that the ruling BJP employed official machinery to influence the polls. The claim was voiced by unnamed opposition representatives who said the party’s use of state resources gave it an unfair advantage. The BJP rejected these allegations, stating that the election process was conducted transparently under the supervision of the State Election Commission.
