Wynsors World of Shoes, a budget footwear retailer with more than 45 branches nationwide, has confirmed that 17 locations will shut as part of a restructuring of its store estate. The company said the closures will affect stores in towns such as Burnley, Fleetwood, Bacup, Bury, Oldham, Salford, Rochdale, Bolton and several others. The full list of stores slated for closure includes branches in Crewe, Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield, Fleetwood, Burnley, Oldham, Salford, Bury, Rochdale, Hanley, Birkenhead, Bootle, Bacup, Bolton, Gateshead, Sunderland and Sunderland. In the North West, the three Lancashire sites—Burnley, Fleetwood and Bacup—are among those confirmed to close. A customer in Bury reported that the Mill Gate Shopping Centre store is scheduled to close on Saturday, September 19, with a sale sign displayed in the window.
Owner Modella Capital’s Difficult Year
The closures follow a warning from Wynsors’ private-equity owner, Modella Capital, earlier this summer about job cuts and changes to its retail portfolio. Modella Capital has endured a challenging 2026; its other holdings, Claire’s and The Original Factory, entered administration earlier in the year, resulting in the shutdown of all 291 combined stores. The investment firm has also been linked to the closure of former WH Smith high-street shops and Hobbycraft outlets in recent years.
