In early September, police were dispatched to a convenience store near Main Street and 16th Avenue in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood shortly after 7 a.m. A man reported that he had been shot in the leg inside H&Z Market. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation and Arrest
Major-crime detectives reviewed CCTV footage and quickly identified a suspect. Later that same day, the Kamloops Royal Canadian Mounted Police informed Vancouver police that the suspect had been taken into custody in Kamloops on an unrelated matter. The British Columbia Prosecution Service subsequently approved charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon against Victor Sorensen-Avila. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
