EU teen safety rules
- President Ursula von der Leyen announced a proposal 16 September 2026 to ban social-media access for children under 13 in the EU.
- The tiered system also mandates safe-design features for 15- to 18-year-old users, while allowing parent-supervised mini-accounts for 13- to 15-year-olds.
- Von der Leyen said Europe must act and that big-tech does not set the rules.
- EU states will vote on it while a Digital Fairness Act is set for autumn.
