During the 1990 Gulf War Saudi Arabia halted oil flow through its pipelines after Iraq threatened the kingdom, and the Trans-Arabian Pipeline ceased operations that year, which had once moved about 340,000 barrels per day. In 2024 Houthi-linked militias again damaged the same east-west route, prompting Saudi Aramco to restore only half capacity and the UN to report over 80,000 Yemenis displaced.
