New Health App Features in iOS 27.2 Beta
Apple’s developer notes confirm that the iOS 27.2 beta includes a substantially upgraded Health app, though the changes will not appear in the final iOS 27.2 release. Apple plans to roll the new version out later in the year as a separate update. The redesign centers on an “Insights” tab powered by Apple Intelligence, which synthesizes data from the Apple Watch and iPhone to deliver personalized health summaries and recommendations.
Insights and Personal Guidance
The Insights tab provides an AI-generated overview of recent metrics such as sleep quality and VO2 max peaks. Within the “For You” section, users receive custom advice on readiness, fitness, heart health, and other domains. Personal guidance tailors suggestions to individual goals—for example, recommending interval training for users focused on cardio improvement. The tab updates throughout the day, reflecting ongoing activity and vitals.
Readiness and Vitals Enhancements
New Apple Watch models calculate a readiness score on a 0–10 scale, incorporating recent activity, sleep, and vital signs. The score is displayed on the watch, in the Fitness app, and within the Health app’s Insights tab, accompanied by prompts such as “Recover,” “Pace Yourself,” “Ready,” or “Go For It.” The Vitals section adds overnight and daytime views, now including heart-rate-variability (HRV) metrics for both overall recovery and stress response.
Longevity Tab and Health Age
A dedicated Longevity tab aggregates data from the iPhone and Apple Watch to assess overall health across categories like heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, movement, metabolism, hearing, and nutrition. Within this tab, the “Health Age” feature compares metrics—including VO2 max, resting heart rate, HRV, sleep patterns, and blood-work biomarkers—to a user’s chronological age, highlighting habits with the greatest impact on health.
Upcoming Services and Availability
Apple intends to introduce at-home health assessments, beginning with a VO2 max test that leverages the iPhone’s camera to track movement under trainer guidance. Additional in-depth assessments will evaluate flexibility, strength, balance, and movement mechanics. For U.S. users, Apple plans to offer a Quest-partnered blood-work panel covering more than 50 biomarkers, priced at $119 and purchasable directly within the Health app. These services are slated for release later in the year, following the beta rollout.
