American Airlines Passenger Duct-Taped After In-Flight Outburst

During a September flight from Dallas to Newark, passenger Layne Lundeen, 67, became increasingly unruly, spewing profanities, racial slurs and lewd remarks, according to Maryland Transportation Authority Police. Flight attendants and two passengers restrained him with zip ties and duct tape, and the pilot declared an emergency landing at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Police escorted Lundeen off the aircraft, during which he struck an officer in the chest.

Lundeen appeared the following day in Annapolis District Court before Commissioner George Haag. He was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Haag released Lundeen on his own recognizance, ordered abstention from alcohol and drugs (except prescribed medication), and set a trial date for October 19 (scheduled).
