Augustus Minerals is preparing to move its drill rig from the Clifton East prospect to the nearby St Patrick’s Well target, located about 11.3 km west of Clifton East in the Music Well project near Leonora, Western Australia. The company plans an initial five-hole reverse-circulation (RC) program to evaluate surface rock-chip assays that recorded grades of 30.4 g/t, 20.4 g/t and 21.7 g/t gold across a roughly 600-m strike zone. Andrew Ford, the company’s general manager of exploration, explained that heavy rainfall—approximately 120 mm between early August and early September—has saturated creeks and drainage tracks, delaying access until the ground dries sufficiently. He indicated that the current RC program is proceeding well and that drilling could resume within the next two weeks, pending improved ground conditions.
Recent Exploration Results at Clifton East
To date, three RC holes totaling 486 m have been completed at Clifton East, complementing an earlier diamond drill that intersected higher-grade quartz-pyrite veins. Reported intercepts include an 11-m section at 2.41 g/t gold from 32 m depth, a 34-m interval at 0.83 g/t gold from 38 m, and an eight-metre zone grading 3.27 g/t gold from 72 m depth. Samples from the RC holes have been sent to a Kalgoorlie laboratory, with assay results expected later in the year.
Industry Context and Stakeholder Interest
The Leonora-Laverton district is experiencing a wave of consolidation, highlighted by Genesis Minerals’ proposed A$12.6 billion merger with Vault Minerals. Such activity raises the profile of nearby explorers capable of delivering high-grade ore. Gold Fields’ subsidiary G Ex Australia recently acquired a 5.33 % stake in Augustus Minerals, providing the multinational miner with a strategic foothold in the district’s gold belt, which hosts more than 28 million ounces of known resources.
Future Outlook
Beyond Music Well, Augustus holds the 840-km² Ti-Tree project in WA’s Gascoyne region, prospecting for copper, gold, lithium and rare earths, and is pursuing applications for projects in Papua New Guinea’s New Guinea Mobile Belt. With assay results pending from both RC and diamond drilling, the company anticipates that positive data could reinforce its position amid a competitive, consolidation-driven environment.
