WhatsApp Plans Three-Account Support for iPhone

Expansion of Multi-Account Feature
WhatsApp is developing a version of its iPhone app that will let users switch among up to three separate accounts without logging out. According to WABetaInfo, the upcoming interface will display each profile’s name, photo, and phone number, with a green checkmark indicating the active account. When a third profile is added, the “Add account” option will remain visible even with two active accounts already present. Each account will retain its own chat history, notifications, privacy settings, backups, and media.
Recent History of Multi-Account on iPhone
The ability to add a second WhatsApp account on iPhone was officially released last June after several months of beta testing. That rollout gave users an alternative to the WhatsApp Business app for managing a second personal or work number. The new three-account development builds on that foundation, aiming to address users who need distinct combinations of personal and professional numbers.
How the Three-Account Interface Works
The proposed selector mirrors the current two-account layout. Users tap the account selector, see a list of existing profiles, and can tap “Add account” to create a third. The design keeps the familiar arrangement: profiles are shown with their associated phone numbers and profile pictures, and the currently active profile is marked with a green check. Because each profile is isolated, messages, media, and backup files remain separate across accounts.
Outlook and Potential Future Expansion
WABetaInfo notes that the three-account feature is still under development and has not yet reached beta testers, indicating that a broader rollout may take additional time. The report also suggests that WhatsApp could eventually support more than three accounts, though no timeline has been provided. If released, the feature would give iPhone users greater flexibility for separating work and personal communications without relying on the Business app or multiple devices.
