On Tuesday evening, September 15, 2026, a Eurocopter AS350 operated by Angel City Air for NBC Los Angeles (NBC4) and Telemundo 52 crashed in the 9100 block of North Mason Avenue, Chatsworth. While hovering to cover a Metro-bus-and-SUV collision, the helicopter descended, struck a parking lot, ignited a fireball and was “pretty well destroyed,” said Brandon Silverman.
Three people were killed: aerial reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and pedestrian Edy Gutierrez Mejia (29), a Guatemalan tourist. Two others were hospitalized—one for injuries, another after a panic attack. The L.A. Fire Department reported damage to four vehicles and two storage containers.

Aviation safety expert Jeff Guzzetti noted “all the earmarks of a potential loss of engine power and a dangerous decrease in the main rotor speed.” Steve Ganyard warned that the low-altitude hover left little margin for autorotation recovery. No definitive cause has been announced.
