Satellite images supplied by Vantor Technologies and analyzed by the Institute for Science and International Security show the Iranian regime rapidly advancing work on the Taleghan 2 bunker within the Parchin military complex, located about 30 km southeast of Tehran. The imagery, dated September 2026, reveals a tarp covering the hardened underground structure, a measure the institute says is intended to conceal reconstruction from satellite and aerial observation. The institute notes that repair and rehabilitation began in June 2026, with concrete caps placed over penetration holes created by previous bunker-buster bombs.
Background: Prior Strikes and the AMAD Program
Taleghan 2 was first destroyed by Israeli air strikes in October 2024. Partial rebuilding started in May 2025, but the site suffered further damage during Israel’s Operation Roaring Lion in March 2026. The facility has been linked to Iran’s AMAD program, which pursued nuclear bomb testing.
Observed Construction Details
The latest images display a range of heavy construction equipment, including dump trucks, bulldozers, concrete pump trucks, mixers and cranes operating on the site. The institute also identified a new concrete apron on the right side of the bunker, which it says will provide additional blast protection against aerial attacks.
Implications and Open Questions
While the Institute for Science and International Security confirms the physical rebuilding, it emphasizes that “significant questions remain” regarding Iran’s intentions for the facility. The rapid reconstruction, despite repeated destruction, raises concerns about the regime’s commitment to maintaining a nuclear testing capability, but the institute does not provide a definitive assessment of future use.
