On a Monday afternoon in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Doug Payne was closing his video-game shop, Downtown Entertainment, when a man entered the store. The attacker wore multiple layers of clothing, a black full-body covering, sunglasses and leather combat gloves. After about 15 minutes of conversation about video games, the man repeatedly stabbed Payne, inflicting five wounds. Payne later described the experience as a narrow escape from death, noting that an artery could have been hit.
Police Action & Legal Proceedings
Police arrested the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Gregg Musakanda, and charged him with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon with a dangerous purpose, breaking and entering, and wearing a disguise with intent. Musakanda appeared via video conference in a Corner Brook courtroom on Thursday, the same day Payne returned to his store.

He said the attacker appeared intent to kill. Despite the injuries, Payne was back at Downtown Entertainment a few days later, attempting to resume normal operations.
