Stabbing Attack in Deep River Leads to Multiple Charges

Police in eastern Ontario responded to a “serious assault” that occurred in the McElligott Drive area of Deep River. A woman was stabbed and transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. The attack prompted authorities to order a shelter-in-place order for residents of Glendale Avenue, McElligott Drive and surrounding streets, lasting roughly 20 hours.
Investigation and Charges
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) released a description of a male suspect—tall, thin, with light-colored skin, wearing light-coloured pants and a dark hoodie—shortly before the incident. The following day, OPP announced two arrests. Haedyn Fry, a 26-year-old Deep River resident, was charged with attempted murder and failure to comply with probation. A 69-year-old Deep River woman was charged with obstruction of a police officer. Fry remains in custody; the older woman was released pending a court appearance next month. Police have asked residents to review any doorbell, security or dash-camera footage captured on the day of the attack.
Police Response and Public Safety Measures
OPP indicated that the investigation remains active and that a heightened police presence will continue in the affected neighbourhoods. Officers are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any relevant video evidence. The shelter-in-place order was lifted after the 20-hour period, but the police presence is expected to persist as investigators follow leads.
Legal Proceedings
Fry is scheduled to appear before court on the Friday following his arrest. The 69-year-old woman will appear in court the subsequent month. Both individuals face the possibility of further charges depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
