Around 5:20 a.m. on Friday, a woman called the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office after seeing a burglary unfold on surveillance video at her home near Hesper Way and Coyle Avenue. Her husband confronted the intruder, who then seized the keys to the husband’s pickup truck and fled. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
Pursuit and Police Tactics
Deputies located the stolen pickup near Manzanita and Madison avenues and attempted to stop the driver. After an initial PIT (precision-impact-tactics) maneuver failed, officers deployed a spike strip, which also proved ineffective. A second PIT maneuver succeeded, bringing the vehicle to a halt at Watt and Edison avenues. As deputies approached, the suspect restarted the truck and drove across the center median toward them. At that point, two deputies opened fire, striking the driver with at least one bullet. The suspect was subsequently given medical aid and transported to a hospital, where his condition was reported as non-life-threatening. No deputies were injured.

Sgt. Edward Igoe, the sheriff’s office spokesperson, said the suspect’s identity has not been released and there was no indication he was armed. He added that the intersection of Watt and Whitney avenues was blocked for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
