Sheep Cruelty Investigation at Tuggeranong Property

Incident Overview
On the evening of September 16, police say a group of people entered a rural property in Tuggeranong, Canberra’s south, located near the pine forest behind the Monaro Highway. Using dogs, the alleged perpetrators rounded up eight sheep and forced them into a holding pen, where multiple animals were deliberately injured. Two of the sheep later died—one at the scene and another euthanised because of severe injuries. The property’s residence was also reported as ransacked, causing “a large amount of disruption” inside the premises.
Police Investigation
ACT Policing released a statement confirming the alleged cruelty and urging the public to assist. Investigators are seeking information about a late-1990s or early-2000s sedan seen in the area between the paintball facility and the Johnson Drive roundabout, as well as any vehicles traveling to or from Old Tuggeranong Road near the pine forest. Anyone who observed unusual activity on September 16 is asked to contact Crime Stoppers ACT and quote reference 8501989.
Owner’s Response
The sheep’s owner, who requested anonymity, described the act as “cowardly” and expressed hope that police would apprehend those responsible. The owner discovered the injured animals in the pen on the morning after the incident and reported the damage to authorities.
