NH-44 Crash Claims Four Family Members

In the early hours of September 19, a Toyota Innova carrying a family from Mahabubnagar collided with a culvert near Palamakula village, Shamshabad, on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-44). The vehicle overturned and was “completely mangled,” police said. The four occupants who died on the spot were identified as Kethavath Limbya (54), his wife Kethavath Jamuna (45), Katravath Mansingh (48) and Kethavath Vasram (45). All were members of the Lambada community and residents of Chowdur village in Nawabpet mandal, Mahabubnagar district. The driver, Sabavath Ashok, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Trident Hospital in Shamshabad. The bodies were transferred to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

ORR Collision Kills Three Workers

Later that morning on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Shamirpet, a stationary Ashok Leyland goods vehicle was struck from behind by a Tata truck. The workers were attempting to replace a punctured tyre when the collision occurred. The victims were Ismail Hussain (26), Rinku and Ibrahim. According to the police complaint, the truck driver identified himself as Nagaraju, a resident of Miyapur, and fled the scene. Mohd. Hussain, Ismail’s brother, lodged the complaint, and Shamirpet police have registered a case and opened an investigation.

Investigation Findings and Official Response

Future City Traffic DCP Shivam Upadhyaya led a joint inspection of the NH-44 crash site with officials from the National Highways Authority of India and the Transport Department. Police reported that the road was in good condition, a “Go Slow” signboard was present, and no cement blocks were found at the spot. Preliminary assessment suggests the Innova was traveling at high speed before losing control and hitting the culvert. For the ORR incident, investigators are focusing on the alleged reckless driving of the Tata-truck driver and have recorded statements from witnesses.

Summary of Casualties and Ongoing Probe

The two accidents on September 19 resulted in seven fatalities: four family members on NH-44 and three workers on the ORR. One driver remains in critical condition, and two injured workers later died in hospital. Police investigations are ongoing, with case registrations filed for both incidents and further inquiries into speed, road conditions, and driver conduct.
