Union Minister for Education Pralhad Joshi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the inauguration of the Jagadguru Gangadhar Mahaswamigalu (JGMM) Medical College and KLE Hospital & Medical Research Centre at Gabbur Cross, Hubballi, on a Saturday. The integrated campus, built on 50 acres donated by Sir Gangadhara Rajayogindra Swami of Moorusavirmath, comprises a built-up area of over 30 lakh sq ft and represents an investment of roughly INR700 crore.
Capacity, Services and Academic Programs
The KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre, which began medical services on January 1, 2025, operates as a 1,200-bed multi-specialty and super-specialty teaching hospital. 300 beds are earmarked for low-income patients, with free or subsidised treatment offered. The facility handles more than 1,000 outpatients daily and admits around 300 inpatients.
The medical college received National Medical Commission approval for 150 MBBS seats in 2021, admitted its first batch in February 2022, and raised intake to 200 seats for the 2025-26 academic year, expanding to 250 seats from 2026-27. Five batches now total roughly 800 students. Post-graduate programmes in 20 departments are slated for the next academic year, with an expected 60 PG seats pending approval.
