An 80-year-old woman was cycling at about 6 p.m. on Saturday evening when she was struck at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Woodbine Street in Chilliwack, British Columbia. She sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Investigation
Sgt. Vanessa Munn of the Chilliwack RCMP said the vehicle fled the scene but was later located and seized. The suspect vehicle is described as a burgundy or red 2021 Chevrolet Silverado crew-cab truck. Police arrested a man in connection with the incident and released him pending further investigation. The Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) processed the crash site, and the B.C. Coroners Service is working with investigators. Police indicated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors.
