On September 20, the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch arrested 54-year-old Dineshbhai Amthabhai Arjanbhai Desai in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad. The case stems from a property and business dispute between two brothers in Dungli village, Rajasthan. In 2002, Desai and co-accused Kishansingh Rajput, Ramjibhai Rabari, Khimaram alias Ramesh Nai, and Hirachand Nai allegedly conspired to kill Delamar Nai. According to the investigation, the group travelled to Pali in an SUV, rammed Delamar’s motorcycle near Dungli Bera Tilawa, and abandoned the vehicle to stage the death as a road accident. Police later classified the act as murder, criminal conspiracy, use of a false mark, and attempted culpable homicide under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302, 120(B), 481, and 308.
Police Investigation and Manhunt
Police inspector Anirudh Jebaliya of the Ahmedabad crime branch explained that Desai concealed his identity, worked as a daily-wage labourer, and moved between locations for 24 years, including stays in Kankrej, Santej (Kalol taluka), and finally Vejalpur. The arrest resulted from a targeted drive to locate fugitives listed in other states’ cases.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
Legal formalities are underway to transfer Desai to the Sadri Police Station in Rajasthan, where he will face prosecution under the listed IPC sections. Rajasthan authorities have previously announced a reward for information leading to his capture.
